Sompo Canopius hires QBE analyst to bolster credit, political and crisis division

Specialty re/insurer Sompo Canopius has appointed Bruce Shepherd as a credit and political risk analyst to lead the credit analysis function in the group's credit, political and crisis division.

Shepherd specialises in complex, structured credit risk in industrialised and emerging markets, and comes from an underwriting background. He joins from QBE and will be reporting to Bernie de Haldevang.

“Bruce will be a great asset to the team and, most importantly, to the brokers we work with; many will know him personally or by reputation,” said de Haldevang. "He brings with him a deep knowledge of the broader field of credit and associated political risk analysis.

"We’ve been investing in underwriting capability recently to boost our firepower across the credit, political and crisis division and Bruce will provide invaluable expertise to support this. ”

Sompo has recently appointed Tim Phillips as credit and political risk underwriter joining from Deutsche Bank, where he was head of credit for Russia/CIS & EE.
