The Hartford appoints former Allstate Life CEO to board of directors

US-based property/casualty insurer The Hartford has appointed Matt Winter to the company’s board of directors.

Winter will serve on the board’s finance, investment and risk management committee, and compensation and management development committee.

Winter was president of The Allstate Corporation and CEO of Allstate Life Insurance Company until his retirement in February 2018. He led both the Allstate personal lines business and Allstate's life and retirement business.

Before joining Allstate, Winter held numerous senior executive positions at large financial institutions and insurance companies, including American International Group (AIG), where he was responsible for all global operations and systems, administrative and divestiture operations as well as AIG India and United Guaranty Corporation. He also served as president and CEO for AIG's American General domestic life companies, which included life insurance, single premium immediate annuities, and voluntary benefits products. Previously, he was executive vice president at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, where he led the company's domestic insurance businesses, and, prior to that, he was vice president and chief ethics and corporate compliance officer for Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company.
