Third Point Re poaches Allied World execs for specialty treaty division

Bermuda-based reinsurer Third Point Re has expanded its specialty treaty division with two new hires from Allied World Reinsurance Company.

Rachael Afford and Melanie Lopes have joined as vice president and underwriter, respectively. They will report to Tracey Gibbons, head of specialty reinsurance, who recently joined the company from Allied World.

Afford was most recently vice president of specialty reinsurance at Allied World, where she focused on workers’ compensation, personal accident, life catastrophe and other casualty lines.

Lopes was previously an underwriting assistant and catastrophe analyst at Allied World with an emphasis on catastrophe and casualty lines. Prior to that, she worked at PwC Bermuda and HSBC Bermuda.

“We recently welcomed Tracey Gibbons, a highly respected underwriter, to lead our new division and we are delighted to welcome Rachael and Melanie; they both bring in-depth knowledge and experience that will help us develop and grow this area of business,” said Dan Malloy, CEO of Third Point Reinsurance Company, the company’s Bermuda based operating subsidiary.
