Specialty insurer Torus has appointed Jaap Gispen, formerly of Marsh Netherlands, as branch manager, Rotterdam, to lead the company’s Netherlands-based operations.

He will report to Demian Smith, chief executive of Torus’ international region and Richard Etridge, chief operating officer, continental Europe.

In addition to overseeing operations within the Dutch market, Gispen will be responsible for servicing and growing Torus’ current Dutch-based Marine and MPL portfolios.

Gispen brings more than 20 years of industry experience serving the Dutch marine market and building specialised marine portfolios. He joins Torus from Marsh Netherlands. He has also held Marine and management roles at Amlin Corporate Insurance, Concordia Holland and UAP-NieuwRotterdam Schade NV.

Smith said: “Jaap is a key appointment and the experience and expertise that he brings to the table will add tremendous value as we look to further expand our physical presence and book of marine and MPL business within the Dutch market.”
