Typhoon Hagibis threatens England rugby match and Formula 1 in Japan

Typhoon Hagibis in Japan has changed course and could now affect the England-France rugby match and the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix.

Hagibis is now expected to hit further north than previously expected. It is likely to hit the island of Honshu, including the Tokyo area, according to media reports. The England-France rugby match on Saturday may have to be postponed or cancelled. The Scotland v Japan rugby match in Yokohama and the F1 race on Sunday could also be hit.

Reports say there were sustained wind speeds on Tuesday morning of 120mph and gusts up to 170mph.

Last month, Typhoon Faxai caused widespread disruption in Japan, with hundreds of thousands of people left without power at one point. Insured losses for Faxai have been put in the range $3-9 billion by modelling firms.
