Validus Specialty taps new COO from XL Catlin

Validus Specialty, a subsidiary of Bermuda-based re/insurer Validus Holdings, has appointed Bob Eells as senior vice president and chief operating officer (COO). He joins the company from XL Catlin.

Eells will also serve as the COO of Validus subsidiaries Western World and Crop Risk Services.

He will report to CEO Jonathan Ritz and be a member of the organisation’s leadership team. Eells will be responsible for leading operations and business enablement, based in the Parsippany, New Jersey office.

Eells has over 30 years of experience in commercial insurance operations. Prior to joining Validus, he focused on new products, innovations and corporate acquisitions at XL Catlin. He previously held increasingly senior roles at Catlin and worked at XL Group, Reliance Insurance and Philadelphia Insurance.

“Bob is a highly respected leader with expertise supporting growing businesses like our own,” said Ritz. “We’re focused on becoming a leader in each of our markets and enhancing our operations, and Bob will help us achieve this goal. He is a valuable addition to the team as we broaden capacity, expand our product portfolio and strengthen our broker, agent and client relationships. We’re confident he will make a substantial contribution.”
