Validus subsidiary AlphaCat appoints portfolio manager

AlphaCat Managers, a subsidiary of Bermuda-based Validus Holdings, has appointed Bernard Van der Stichele as portfolio manager.

In this new role, Van der Stichele will report to AlphaCat's chief executive officer Lixin Zeng.

Van der Stichele previously served as vice president at AQR Capital Management. Prior to that, he was a senior investment analyst at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, where he developed its first direct ILS investment strategy.

"We are delighted to welcome Bernard to the AlphaCat team," Zeng said. "With his impressive track-record and extensive knowledge of insurance-linked securities and reinsurance asset classes, we are confident that he will add tremendous value to AlphaCat."

Separately, Validus Services’ EVP and head of US rroperty underwriting Chris Silvester will assume primary responsibility for AlphaCat’s reinsurance business origination, in addition to his role as head of Validus Services’ US property team.

Silvester will continue to report to Validus Services’ EVP and chief underwriting officer Jeff Clements.
