Volante unveils Nordic-focused MGA with QBE hire

Volante Global, a new multi-class and multi-territory international managing general agent (MGA) platform, has launched Nordic-focused MGA Bridge Underwriting to begin underwriting in March.

The Stockholm-based specialist underwriting MGA will be led by Torkel Lindberg as managing director, and offer property, liability, financial lines and commercial combined insurance solutions, according to a Feb. 1 press release.

Most recently, Lindberg was general manager for the Nordic region at QBE Insurance, and prior to this held senior positions at both Marsh and Willis in Sweden.

Bridge Underwriting has secured AA+ rated capacity by Volante’s intermediary, Aon Benfield, led by Nick Frankland’s team including Vijay Mavani, Rob Sharp and Linley Ah-Chung.

"As a specialist MGA, Bridge Underwriting provides the perfect vehicle to deliver a comprehensive range of relevant products to the Nordic market," Lindberg said. "The flexibility and responsiveness inherent in the MGA structure will enable us to fully capitalise on the underwriting expertise within our team to develop solutions that truly meet the very diverse needs of our clients. Add to this the fact that our products are supported by some of the strongest capacity available today and this gives us a clear edge in what is a very competitive marketplace."

Talbir Bains, founder and CEO of Volante, added: “The Nordic region remains a much-coveted territory for the London Market, underpinned by a consistent delivery over the long term of very respectable combined performance to its insurers. Bridge Underwriting introduces a compelling, differentiated and robust new insurance proposition to the Nordic region, bringing together formidable underwriting talent centred in Stockholm and providing insurance solutions across the P&C product spectrum, sponsored by market-leading capacity.

"Our revolutionary real-time technology platform will enable our Nordic team to deliver the highest standard of service to our supporting brokers, across an exceptional range of insurance products built to the needs of our insureds, whether SMEs or large corporates. Our aim at Volante is to place our distinguished underwriting teams in the driving seat, in order that they are fully empowered to develop industry-advancing solutions that really deliver on the promise that we as an industry make to our insureds.”

The launch of Bridge Underwriting follows that of Edison Motor, a UK commercial motor specialist MGA which launched on the Volante platform in January.
