Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway warns on fake crypto trading firm using its name

Warren Buffett’s  Berkshire Hathaway has warned investors that a fraudulent cryptocurrency brokerage website is posing as the company, using the insurer’s name. The entity has, however, “no affiliation” with the real Berkshire Hathaway.

“It came to our attention that there is an entity using the name Berkshire Hathaway,” Berkshire Hathaway said in an official statement, noting that the URL used by the impostor is not used by the real company.

“The entity who has this web address has no affiliation with Berkshire Hathaway Inc. or its Chairman and CEO, Warren E. Buffett.,” it said.

The fake Berkshire Hathaway describes itself as a “Texas-based company created to give our investors the opportunity to achieve a completely passive income from investment in cryptocurrency mining.”

It also claims to be a “global CFD and FX broker” founded in 2020 and regulated by several financial authorities, including “the Financial Sector Conduct Authorities (FSCA), UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), FinCEN Department of the Treasury, United States of America”. The names of some of the regulators used are incorrect.

Featuring purported customer testimonials with “4.8 Ratings” on Google reviews, the fake website’s address in Montgomery, TX also turns out to be an empty land in a residential location when put through Google search.
