Willis Re exec becomes CUO at Charles Taylor company Signal

Signal Administration, a workers’ compensation mutual manager which is part of Charles Taylor company, has hired a former vice president from Willis Re as chief underwriting officer.

Justin Gardner joins the Signal Mutual manager from Willis Re, where he was the executive vice president and led the broker's US specialty division. Prior to that, he worked for 20 years for Gen Re, a property/casualty, life and health reinsurer, latterly as senior vice president.

In his new role, Gardner will be responsible for developing company's underwriting and marketing capabilities and securing new high quality members for the Signal Mutual Indemnity Association in the United States. He will also join the senior leadership team, taking up a key role in driving Signal's strategic development.

"We created the role of chief underwriting officer to provide a focal point for the growth and development of Signal Mutual and its membership," said Richard Wood, president of Signal Administration.

"As Signal is the leading mutual provider of Longshore workers’ compensation benefits in the USA, we were seeking a well-respected and effective insurance professional to lead our underwriting and marketing teams," Wood added.

"With Justin, we found the perfect person and I am delighted that he has chosen to join Signal Administration. He brings vast knowledge of the insurance and reinsurance markets and a reputation for business development success, underpinned by strong technical expertise."

Longshore workers’ compensation insurance is a compulsory cover, governed by the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act.
