Willis Towers Watson vows to be carbon net zero by 2050

Willis Towers Watson has committed to delivering net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest.

The commitment includes a reduction of at least 50 percent by 2030 across its business operations, and to achieving 100 percent renewable energy supplies across the company’s real estate portfolio.

The pledge aligns Willis Towers Watson with the Science Based Targets Initiative.

John Haley, chief executive officer at Willis Towers Watson, said: “Willis Towers Watson is committed to supporting measures aimed at helping to tackle climate change. The need to manage climate risk and support an orderly transition to a low-carbon, resilient economy is no longer solely a matter of conscience but a strategic and financial imperative.”

Willis Towers Watson is a member of the Insurance Development Forum and ClimateWise, and supports the Taskforce on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures and the Coalition for Climate Resilient Investment. It is committed to minimising its environmental impact and carbon emissions through improvements to energy efficiency across its operations, for example by promoting the use of virtual meeting technologies and waste minimisation.

It also purchases environmentally responsible office supplies and encourages environmentally responsible habits among its employees, the company said.
