XL Catlin promotes from within for Europe and LatAm marine role

XL Catlin’s insurance operations has promoted Paul Rothery to the position of regional product leader for marine liabilities and ports in Europe and Latin America.

Based in London, Rothery will be responsible for setting underwriting strategy, working closely with the local underwriting teams.

Rothery joined XL Catlin in 2002 as a graduate, and joined the marine liability underwriting team in 2005.

He is the lead underwriter of the wavelength ports and terminal facility at Lloyd’s of London.

Commenting on the announcement, James Power, XL Catlin’s Global Practice Leader, Marine Liabilities and Ports - Insurance said: “Paul has been an integral part of our success since joining the team in 2005. His broad product knowledge and innovative approach make him the ideal candidate to drive our European and Latin American offering.”

Mauricio Giuntini, XL Catlin’s regional product leader for marine, Latin America, added: “The recent growth in demand for Marine Liabilities & Ports solutions in Latin America is something XL Catlin is keen to address, providing solutions tailored to local needs. Paul’s appointment is key to supporting our ambitions for this class of business and I am greatly looking forward to working with him as he steps into the new role.”

Bert Nelen, regional product leader for marine, EMEA, added: “Our Marine business is well established across Europe, with Marine underwriters located in ten major cities, but we do certainly have growth opportunities and are looking to bring our market leading experiences to a wider client base.”
