‘Active insurer’ of digital risk appoints UK claims leader

Coalition, which describes itself as an ‘active insurer’ for digital risks, has hired its first UK claims leader.

Laura Stewart (pictured) joins the company as claims counsel to support the firm’s mission to offer ‘active insurance’ designed to prevent fast moving digital risk before it happens.

Stewart brings knowledge and experience from a career in the legal and cyber sectors with previous roles at DAC Beachcroft, Ernst & Young, and most recently US law firm Morrison Foerster. In her job at Morrison Foerster she helped clients with data protection and privacy, cyber incidents, negotiation, and security training. Throughout her career, Stewart has supported clients with a range of incidents, including ransomware, financial fraud, business email compromise, and insider threats. She also brings experience of dealing with insurance claims and coverage issues.

Stewart said: “Coalition’s active insurance is a unique solution that helps clients before, during, and after a cyber event. I am delighted to join Coalition at such an exciting time and look forward to helping policyholders when they need it most. Having acted as breach response counsel for many clients throughout my career, I understand how important it is for organisations to be well-prepared for an incident and to be able to react quickly. I look forward to working with brokers to ensure their clients are prepared, and I will help ensure policyholders receive an exceptional claims service.”

Tom Draper, UK head of insurance at Coalition, said: “Laura’s expertise in supporting clients through an incident will prove invaluable to our policyholders and brokers. Her understanding of what steps can be taken pre-incident to improve outcomes will give clients even more confidence in the active cyber insurance proposition. Her added leadership to our UK cyber claims team demonstrates Coalition’s continued investment in our UK expansion.”
