Cytora taps former Aon veteran to support global growth plans

Insurtech Cytora has expanded its global advisory board with the addition of a former Aon group chief operating officer (COO) and chief digital officer.

James Platt joins Cytora with a mandate to support its global growth plans with fellow advisory board members from across commercial and specialty insurance backgrounds.

Platt has previously led the big data and advanced analytics practice at BCG before establishing the group wide digitisation initiative at Aon. Platt joined Aon first as chief executive officer (CEO) of data analytics before assisting with the transition to a digital-first operating model as  group COO and then as chief digital officer. Platt recently co-founded Trimstone Partners, a boutique consultancy focused on enabling strategic change across financial services.

The appointment follows Cytora's recent partnership with Chubb.

Platt said: “I have been genuinely blown away by Cytora’s capabilities and use of AI. I am convinced Cytora can help the insurance industry to digitize risk, accelerate competitive differentiation, reduce costs and ultimately enable a step change in client, broker and insurer experience, through better data, new insights and accelerated processing.”

Richard Hartley, CEO of Cytora, said: “I’d like to welcome James to the advisory board. The transformative opportunity presented by artificial intelligence is a top board level priority and it is a complex area for insurance companies to successfully harness at scale to achieve enduring outperformance. James will benefit our team, partners and clients with his deep expertise across the risk and insurance value chain.”

Cytora's advisory board group consists of Bronek Masojada, chair of SiriusPoint and formerly CEO of Hiscox, Kelly Lyles, board member at Convex and Howden Group, Jeffrey Hayman, chair of R&Q Insurance Holdings and former board member of Zurich Insurance Group, John Bruno, president of Xerox, and Bill Bloom, former CIO and head of operations at both The Hartford and Travelers, Thomas Huerlimann, board member of Hiscox and former CEO of Zurich Global Corporate, Emmanuel Clarke, former CEO of PartnerRe and Chairman of BMS, Adrian Brown, former UK CEO RSA, Karen Green, board member of Miller Insurance Services and Phoenix Group Holdings and Alan Morgan, former senior partner at McKinsey and head of financial services.
