EIOPA tells supervisors to follow major PE risks beyond insurer walls

European supervisors have been told to intensify scrutiny of private equity acquisitions of re/insurers and the subsequent management, governance and financial strategies of the PE-owned carriers, making sure to look well beyond the carriers’ confines, as EIOPA moves to harmonise oversight of a sector it says could present distinct risks.
