El Niño may deliver a quiet Atlantic in 2026, if it can call the tune

The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season may pack a weaker than average punch, two key research institutes said in the kick-off to forecast season, with total seasonal power seen 25 to 40% below average depending on the storm-suppressive strength of an expected El Niño, reports from two of the leading global forecasters have suggested.
