Fairfax net income rises despite jump in wildfire claims

Fairfax Financial Holdings’ underwriting income was slashed by 40%, primarily due to claims from the Los Angeles wildfires, but a billion dollar gain in its investments meant the company ended up with an improved first quarter performance.
