Hurricane Melissa to wreak $5bn havoc, trigger parametric cat bond

Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall in Jamaica as a ferocious Category 5 storm, is expected to inflict insured losses exceeding $5 billion and trigger the island’s $150 million parametric catastrophe bond, in what analysts are calling a “tail event” for the Caribbean insurance market.
