Hurricane Milton surges to Cat 5 in 24 hours, aims for Florida as Cat 3

Hurricane Milton has undergone “explosive rapid intensification,” surging from a tropical storm on Monday (October 7) to a Category 5 hurricane in just one day, a rare event in the Atlantic basin. It is expected to make landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast on Wednesday evening (October 9) as a strong Category 3 hurricane, according to early forecasts.
