Africa Specialty Risks hires MD for Mauritius amid growth drive

Africa Specialty Risks (ASR) has appointed a managing director to drive its ambitious growth plans in Mauritius.

The pan-African focused reinsurance group has also launched recruitment drive to attract professionals in finance, underwriting, compliance and business administration.

Krishna Bheenick, the new MD, has held senior positions at SWAN General, Mauritius Commercial Bank, XL Catlin Insurance (UK), Munich Mauritius Reinsurance Company and Munich Re of Africa.

Mikir Shah (pictured), CEO of ASR, said: “With Krishna’s vast expertise in the reinsurance market locally and internationally, and his deep understanding of African markets, he will be a key member of our team as we continue to develop the business.”

Bheenick said: “ ASR will provide additional African-domiciled capacity in the market, especially in the light of the pandemic which has led a number of global reinsurers to focus more on their home markets.”
