AIG poaches XL Catlin exec

American International Group (AIG) has appointed Stuart Sutherland as UK head of casualty.

Based in London, Stuart will report to Jacqueline McNamee, managing director, UK and Nicolas Berg, EMEA casualty head.

He joins from XL Catlin, where he most recently served as regional casualty manager for the UK, Australia and Scandinavia for XL. Prior to this role he had a management position in AIG’s major accounts practice in London.

McNamee said: “We have recently improved our underwriting approach and restructured the department to better serve brokers and customers. Stuart joins at a time when his reputation in the market and the years of underwriting and leadership experience he brings will help us develop and grow our UK casualty book particularly in the London and wholesale markets.”

Sutherland added: “I am impressed by the scope of AIG’s ambition for casualty business. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead with confidence that the casualty team have the drive and experience to succeed.”
