Allianz reveals new leader for German & Swiss markets

Allianz has appointed a new leader for its commercial insurance business in Germany & Switzerland.

Michael Furtschegger (pictured) has been named regional managing director for Allianz Commercial Germany & Switzerland, with effect from January 1, 2024.

Furtschegger, currently global head of entertainment, will succeed Hans-Jörg Mauthe who retires at the end of 2023 after a 30+ year career with Allianz Group.

Furtschegger has been Allianz’s global head of entertainment since October 2020. Previously, he was responsible for the entertainment portfolio of Allianz outside North America as head of entertainment international. He has been with Allianz since 2009, and his roles have included executive assistant to Axel Theis, former CEO of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE (AGCS), and head of global strategy & development for AGCS’s chief underwriting office specialty.

Mauthe joined Allianz in 1990 as a trainee, and subsequently held several roles at Allianz Versicherungs-AG, including head of commercial liability and head of corporate casualty. In 2006, he joined AGCS as head of liability / D&O Germany, before becoming regional head of market management in 2011 and regional managing director Central & Eastern Europe in 2019. In March 2023, he was appointed commercial managing director for the Germany & Switzerland region and has since represented the combined insurance business for mid-sized and large companies in the two markets.

Allianz Commercial’s entertainment line of business will be managed on an interim basis by global head of specialty, Gordon Browne.

Dirk Vogler, Allianz Commercial chief regions & markets officer, said: “Hans-Jörg has been a major contributor to Allianz in the Commercial segment for many years. Not only is he highly respected in the market, but also among colleagues. I want to thank him for his many contributions to Allianz over the years. We welcome Michael as his successor, who brings many years of experience to the role and is well known in the market and our business. I wish Michael every success in the future and all the best to Hans-Jörg for his future beyond Allianz.”
