Allianz unit AGCS mines AIG for new global head of specialty lines

Allianz’s global corporate and specialty insurance unit  AGCS mined AIG for new leadership to to head up its $3.4 billion specialty business spanning aviation, energy & construction, entertainment and marine.

Gordon Browne (pictured) will join AGCS in New York in April as global head of specialty, managing some 30% of the AGCS total premium.

Announcement follows hot on the heels of word that Allianz will be integrating its offer in commercial insurance across AGCS and Allianz P&C units to better move on opportunities in mid-corporate, large corporate and specialty, all under the name Allianz Commercial.

Browne to the Allianz group from AIG, where he had most recently been global head of energy & construction and head of North America specialty. Prior to his almost eight years with AIG, where he was also UK head of energy & construction and global product line executive for energy and engineered risks, he had held senior leadership roles at both Liberty International Underwriters and global broker Marsh.

AGCS chief underwriting officer Shanil Williams commented: “Specialty customers are an important part of our client base and, with the launch of Allianz Commercial, the moment is right to invest and develop in this area further. Gordon will work with the Specialty leadership team to reinforce our strong position in this segment, as well as ensuring that Specialty plays a significant role in the partnership with Allianz’s national companies as we grow the wider Commercial business.”
