Antares taps marine cargo underwriter from Sompo Canopius

Antares, the Lloyd's managing agent and part of the QIC Group, has appointed Joe Mellen as marine cargo underwriter.

Mellen joins Antares from Sompo Canopius, where he served for 12 years as cargo underwriter. He began his insurance career with Langtons Managing Agency in 1982, before holding a series of underwriting roles at Kellett Group, Archer Group and Trenwick.

He underwrites a broad spectrum of cargo risks, from multinational businesses through to small firms, across a range of territories and through both open market placement, coverholders and MGAs.

Mellen will report to Henry Maughan, class underwriter marine cargo.

Maughan said: "Joe is a highly respected and incredibly experienced underwriter. His expertise will be a significant asset which will complement our existing capabilities. Joe will play a key role in the continued expansion of our marine cargo business. I am very pleased to welcome him to the team."

Mellen added: "Antares is a respected and established player in the Marine Cargo sector and I look forward to working with Henry and the team to further their position in this market."
