ARAG poaches Markel executive for ‘critical role’

Legal expenses and assistance provider ARAG has recruited a senior Markel executive for a “critical role” to help bolster relationships with insurance brokers in the UK.

Alastair Sambrook (pictured) has been appointed to the key broker business management role.

Reporting to ARAG’s UK sales manager for before-the-event business Matt Warren, Sambrook will be responsible for leading the broker account team and for developing relationships with brokers, predominantly in the South East of England.

In an insurance career already spanning more than 30 years, Sambrook has held a number of broker management, business development and leadership roles for several major insurers, including XL Catlin, Markel and Allianz.

“Alastair brings with him a huge amount of experience, not just of the insurance industry, but specifically in managing relationships with brokers,” said Warren.

“ARAG’s commitments to delivering the best service to our broker partners and ensuring that we continue to develop market-leading products that work for them and for their clients, make this a pivotal role for us that demanded a candidate of Alastair’s calibre.”

Sambrook commented: “ARAG has such a great reputation in a sector that is becoming increasingly important to brokers. I am very much looking forward to getting to know our existing business partners and helping to develop those relationships and build some new ones.”
