AXA XL's Kerrigan switches to Ascot as group CIO

Michael Kerrigan has joined Bermuda-based re/insurer Ascot as group chief information officer (CIO) to lead all aspects of its technology portfolio and digital insurance platforms, including its wholly owned MGU Ethos Specialty.

Kerrigan was most recently CIO of global operations at AXA XL, having previously held similar posts at The Hartford, ACE and AIG. Prior to that, he helped establish Citigroup's commercial lending technology division.

In his new role, Kerrigan will lead Ascot’s strategy to create a tech centric and agile global organisation to enhance group performance and scalability of its global platforms. Based in New York, he will report to group chief operating officer Yvonne Costello.

Ascot said it is focused on building a modern-era specialty insurance company underpinned by enterprise-wide connected technologies centered on enhancing customer experience with the digitization of underwriting, distribution and claims processes.

Costello said: “I’m delighted to welcome Michael to Ascot; his depth of experience at leading insurance organizations allows us to leverage his expert knowledge to support our unique strategies. We have always been proud of our nimble operating model – adding Michael to Ascot will propel us to the next level, and ensure that our operating efficiency and client experience are strengthened by advanced digital solutions. ”

Kerrigan commented: “This is an exciting time to join Ascot given its growth trajectory and focus on technology. I look forward to working across the business to implement a customer centric approach which helps to underpin the company’s ambitious future development.”
