Barbican establishes UK marine division with new hire

The UK insurance arm of Barbican Insurance Group has set up a new marine division with the appointment of Sarah Joiner as a marine underwriter.

Based in London, Joiner will report to Stuart Kilpatrick, managing director of Barbican Protect.

She has over a decade of experience in the marine sector, having most recently served as director and underwriter at Argosy Underwriting Agency. Prior to this, she worked at Northern Marine Underwriters and ACIS Cargo Underwriting.

The new marine division will provide a range of insurance solutions to the UK SME market, spanning annual marine cargo (including stock throughput), hauliers and freight forwarders liability, and freight forwarders online cargo.

Kilpatrick said: “We see strong potential for growth in the UK marine insurance sector and firmly believe that our ability to deliver clearly defined, competitively priced, customer-focused insurance solutions will help us unlock that potential.

“I am delighted that Sarah has joined the team as marine underwriter. She is a highly-respected figure in the marine sector and I am confident that she will be able to spear-head our push into this market.”

Joiner added: “Barbican Protect has secured a strong reputation for high calibre service in all of the markets it operates in, and I look forward to helping to extend that quality of delivery into the marine insurance sector.”
