Barbican hires Standard Syndicate exec for financial lines unit

Barbican Insurance Group has bolstered its financial lines division with the addition of a class underwriter for directors & officers (D&O) liability insurance, joining the business from Standard Syndicate 1884.

Sarah McGurk will report to Barbican's D&O underwriting manager Hans Sherman.

McGurk has over 10 years of experience in underwriting D&O-related policies. During her 24-year insurance career, she has worked across both the underwriting and broking arenas and has been a London Market underwriter for the last five years.

Most recently, McGurk was an underwriter for D&O liability insurance at The Standard Syndicate 1884. She joined Standard in April 2015 and was responsible for developing and implementing the D&O underwriting strategy.

Commenting on the appointment, Andrew Pearson, divisional head of financial lines, said: “Sarah is an excellent addition to our financial lines team. She has a very strong underwriting background in the D&O arena and will play a key role in the continued growth of our portfolio.”
