Berkshire’s BHSI taps underwriting manager in Australia

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, has tapped an insider with Marsh background to manage its underwriting activities in Australia.

Based in Brisbane, Sami Jaghbir (pictured) has been appointed as the new underwriting manager for Queensland.

Jaghbir has 18 years of insurance industry experience, specialising in E&P lines. Prior to working for BHSI in 2015, he was senior account executive for financial and professional lines at Marsh and held various senior positions at Vero, such as senior underwriter of professional and financial risks and underwriting manager NSW/ACT.

BHSI in Brisbane provides E&P, general property, energy, construction, mining, marine cargo, hull and marine liabilities, accident and health, medical malpractice, and surety solutions.

Mark Lingafelter, BHSI's president of Australasia, said: “Sami joined BHSI in 2015 to help establish our Brisbane office. He was pivotal in building our executive and professional lines business in Queensland and, more recently, has led our commercial directors and officers product line in New South Wales.”
