BMS targets Iberia expansion with big Willis Towers Watson hire

Specialist re/insurance broker  BMS has hired a Willis Towers Watson director to help expand its affinity and wholesale business in Iberia.

Jorge Melero (pictured) joins BMS as director of affinity and wholesale partnerships for Spain & Portugal. Based in Madrid, Melero will join BMS Iberia’s executive committee and report to Fernando Claro, CEO of BMS Iberia.

Before joining BMS, Melero was commercial director (affinity) at Willis Towers Watson Iberia, focusing on consumer affinity schemes via insurance and reinsurance channels. In this role, he provided broking and consulting services to some of the largest corporations in the Spanish market. Prior to that, he worked at Aon Affinity from 2007 to 2013, where he also specialised in the design, placement and distribution of insurance programmes for affinity partners.

Claro said: “As a fast-growing and specialist (re)insurance broker, BMS Iberia is continuing to invest in enhancing its position as a top-five affinity broker in Spain. Jorge’s significant experience will be instrumental in consolidating our market presence, by driving the development of innovative solutions that are customised to the needs of each affinity and wholesale client.  We are pleased to have Jorge on board.”

Melero added: “ BMS has developed an extremely successful affinity practice in Iberia.  I am excited to join BMS and work closely with the existing team to contribute to the expansion of the project in Spain and Portugal.”
