Brit grows professional liability unit with Hiscox, Hartford hires

Specialty re/insurer Brit has hired Hiscox and The Hartford executives to bolster its Brit Global Specialty USA (BGSU) professional liability team.

Tom Rea joins as senior vice president, miscellaneous professional liability, and Jim Kelly as assistant vice president, construction professional.

Rea will be based in Glastonbury, Connecticut and report to Tom Bongi, executive vice president, professional liability for BGSU. He will focus on writing miscellaneous professional liability for US domiciled companies through wholesale intermediaries.

Rea joins from Hiscox USA, where he was vice president, professional liability. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Travelers and seven years at Business Risk Partners.

Kelly will be based in New York and report to Rich Hartman, senior vice president, construction professional. Most recently, he was an executive underwriter with The Hartford in its construction professional unit. Prior to this role, he was with XL Catlin.

Nick Davies, president, Brit Americas, commented: “We are pleased to announce these additional high calibre hires to our rapidly growing professional lines business. Tom brings outstanding nationwide experience and relationships in the miscellaneous professional liability market while Jim’s reputation for expertise in professional liability risks for contractors and design professionals is well deserved.”

Matthew Wilson, CEO, Brit said: “We have added a number of talented underwriters to our US team in recent months, and we are pleased by the rapid progress being made by BGSU’s professional lines team since it was established last year under Tom Bongi’s leadership. These appointments further strengthen the depth of talent we have in our business and are a good demonstration of our continued successful growth strategy for BGSU.”
