Brit’s Ki taps ex-Talbot CFO to drive commercial strategy and growth

Brit’s algorithmically-driven, follow-only Lloyd’s syndicate  Ki has recruited a commercial director from Zego, who was previously chief financial officer at Talbot Underwriting, to lead the way in its commercial strategy and growth initiatives.

As commercial director, Catherine Barton will join Ki’s executive management committee and report to Mark Allan, CEO.

Her responsibilities will include oversight of Ki’s financial performance, developing Ki’s strategic partnerships and working closely with the management team to deliver Ki’s commercial strategy and growth initiatives.

Barton was most recently chief insurance officer at Zego and prior to that, CFO at Talbot Underwriting Limited. She has also held senior executive management roles at Bupa UK and been a Partner at both EY and Deloitte. Barton is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and, in addition, served as a Non-Executive Director at Sabre Insurance Group between 2017 and 2021.

Allan, CEO of Ki, said: “We’re excited to have someone of Catherine’s calibre join Ki. She brings impressive experience in both insurance and finance having held leadership roles with a number of well-known and highly regarded businesses. Having established meaningful scale through our digital and data-led model, we now are focused on the next stage of growth and development for Ki. Catherine will be a strong addition to our management team as we look to further expand our underwriting footprint, optimise our portfolio and deepen relationships with new and existing trading partners.”

Barton commented: “Having observed the creation and early impressive growth of Ki from the outside, I’m delighted to be joining the business as it builds on the strong foundations it has established over the last couple of years. I have been impressed by the team at Ki and what has been delivered so far, which is bringing alive the potential of data-led, algorithmically-driven decision-making. I’m looking forward to being part of the management team and helping to shape the next phase of Ki’s development.”
