Chaucer looks to AXA XL for new head of insurance

Specialty re/insurance group  Chaucer has hired its new head of insurance from AXA XL.

Xamira Groves (pictured) will oversee the delivery of strategy and portfolio management across all general insurance lines and underwriting entities, working closely with active underwriter of Syndicate 1084 Ed Lines, deputy active underwriter Kelan Hunt, and Jonathan Sutcliffe, General Manager of Chaucer Insurance Company D.A.C.

Groves joins Chaucer from AXA XL, where most recently she held the position of deputy global head of title insurance. Prior to that, she was managing director of Catlin South America, based in Bogotá. She has also worked for Willis and Cooper Gay Steel in New York.

Groves has over 25 years of experience in the insurance market across personal lines, commercial, marine liability, and property and casualty insurance. At AXA XL, her responsibilities included P&L management, product development, and achieving top and bottom line growth targets.

Nicola Stacey, chief underwriting officer of Chaucer, said: “We’re excited for Xamira to join us. Her strong record of successful business and product development and strategic planning will be invaluable to the firm. Additionally, Xamira’s breadth of expertise and knowledge of the international insurance market will be a definite asset, as Chaucer looks to expand its global market share.”

Groves commented: “I’m delighted to be joining Chaucer and greatly look forward to working alongside the firm’s extremely talented individuals in driving the business forward.”
