DAC Beachcroft looks to DLA Piper/RPC for expansion in Singapore

Re/insurance law firm DAC Beachcroft has significantly expanded its presence in Singapore with new partner hires from RPC and DLA Piper.

Summer Montague (pictured left) joins the firm from RPC, and Andrew Robinson (pictured right) from DLA Piper. Expansion in Singapore is the latest step DACB has taken to bolster its international offering.

Earlier this summer, the firm signed a cooperation agreement to expand its relationship with BLD Bach Langheid Dallmayr, an insurance and liability law firm in Germany, creating one of the largest alliance of lawyers in Europe by an insurance-focused law firm.

Montague is a commercial disputes lawyer focussed on insurance and reinsurance. She specialises in resolving complex, cross-border insurance and reinsurance disputes arising from property, power generation, energy (onshore and offshore), mining and construction risks. She has extensive experience advising on product recall policies and in handling product liability claims in Asia, Europe and the US, particularly in the technology, pharmaceutical and automotive industries. She also advises on legal issues arising from cyber security incidents and complex IT claims across the globe. She was previously a partner at RPC Singapore.

Robinson advises on insurance and reinsurance matters with specific expertise in large-scale international financial lines and professional indemnity disputes, ESG and regulatory and compliance issues, and dealing with substantial casualty losses. He has a strong practice focussed on cyber risks and data security, as well as in-depth experience of litigation, arbitration and mediation forms of dispute resolution, regionally and globally, for both public and private entities. He trained and qualified at DACB and re-joins the firm after stints at Kennedys Singapore and, most recently, DLA Piper Singapore.

Gustavo Blanco, DAC Beachcroft’s head of international business, said: “The economic and social growth of the Singapore and Southeast Asian market has been fast-paced and exponential in recent years, spurring a boom in insurance claims that have become increasingly complex, more frequent, higher value and higher profile. As such, Singapore is a key market for insurers, and to better meet their needs, we have plans to increase our presence significantly in Singapore and, more broadly, Asia.”

Julian Teoh, partner and head of DAC Beachcroft Singapore, added: “We’re delighted to have Summer joining us and to welcome Andrew back to DACB as well. With our broad international reach, DACB is well placed to deliver the global support that insurers and their policyholders need. Here in Singapore, having Summer and Andrew on board, as well as aviation specialist Hermanto Moeljo who joined last year, we are even better placed to support our clients in this key region.”
