Former AXIS/PartnerRe veteran joins Verisk to expand casualty modelling

Property/casualty insurance data analytics provider  Verisk has recruited an insurance expert with nearly three decades of experience at firms including PartnerRe and  AXIS Capital to help expand its casualty modelling offerings.

Eric Gesick (Pictured) joins Verisk Extreme Event Solutions as the senior vice president of casualty analytics. Over the last two years has been examining climate risk issues and solutions through academic research and advisory services.

Gesick most recently served as the global chief actuary of PartnerRe and as the global chief actuary, global chief risk officer, and global chief underwriting officer of AXIS Capital, with leadership responsibilities including pricing, portfolio management, underwriting standards, reserving, ERM, natural catastrophe modelling, exposure management, and capital modelling for multiple lines of business, including liability, property, and specialty insurance.

“Mr. Gesick’s knowledge and expertise will be applied to focus on accelerating wider adoption of Verisk’s casualty modelling solutions in the (re)insurance industry as the best-in-class tool for managing risk in casualty lines of business,” said Jay Guin, chief research officer and executive vice president at Verisk Extreme Event Solutions.

Gesick said: “In the last few years, we have seen a growing need for more powerful industry standard modelling applications that can help insurance companies evaluate global systemic and emerging liability risk.

“The future of liability underwriting, from exposure management to pricing and portfolio management, will include modelling systemic and emerging liability risks, with integrated risk modelling and metrics. A robust and current view of systemic and emerging liability risk with risk modelling capability will transform the liability insurance market similar to how natural catastrophe modelling transformed the property insurance market.  As Verisk’s liability risk modelling solutions continue to evolve, I look forward to engaging with the insurance industry to help make this future a reality.”
