HDI Global Specialty hires expert from AXA as it targets fine art

Specialty lines insurer HDI Global Specialty UK has hired an expert in art underwriting from AXA as it moves into the fine art market.

Nick Brett spent a total of 19 years at AXA, progressing from development underwriter to the role of chief executive of AXA Art UK in 2015. He joins as head of fine art responsible for overseeing the growth of the new line of business for the insurer.

Prior to AXA Art, Brett worked as a fine art broker and non-marine property and casualty reinsurance broker. He comes from a family of art dealers and is regarded as a highly experienced and well-known lead underwriter in the London market.

Richard Taylor, HDI Global Specialty UK managing director and a member of the executive board, said: “Nick Brett is one of the most experienced and able fine art underwriters in the London market. He’s known for being a commercially and technically astute lead underwriter. I am looking forward to working with him as we build out our fine art book and capabilities.”

Brett added: “I’ve seen the growth in scale and ambition of HDI Global Specialty SE over the last 12 months; I’m pleased to be able to bring my experience and market knowledge to its newest line of business.”
