Hiscox picks interim leader as hunt for permanent CFO continues

An interim chief financial officer (CFO) has been appointed at  Hiscox as the global specialist re/insurer conducts search to identify a permanent group CFO who will replace  chief executive-in-waiting Aki Hussain during a period of leadership transition at the firm.

Liz Breeze (pictured) will take on the CFO duties on an interim basis starting January 2022, subject to regulatory approval, as well as join the group executive committee. She will work closely with Aki Hussain, group CFO and CEO designate, and be based in London.

Breeze joined Hiscox in 2012 from KPMG Bermuda, and has held a number of senior finance roles across the group, including group technical accountant, head of finance for Hiscox UK, and most recently CFO for Hiscox Re & ILS. As part of the Hiscox Re & ILS leadership team, she has driven “significant improvements in both financial systems and capital efficiency,” the company said. She is a chartered accountant, having trained with KPMG, and previously worked as part of their insurance practice in London and Bermuda.

“Liz has a deep understanding of our business, having spent time in both our big-ticket and retail operations. She has also been an important participant in our work to embed structural finance change as part of our multi-year finance transformation programme. Liz will be an excellent addition to our Executive team and I look forward to continuing to work closely with her,” said Hussain.

Breeze commented: “I am delighted to take on this new challenge and look forward to bringing my financial expertise and knowledge of the business to this role as we look to realise the abundance of opportunities ahead of us.”
