Imperium reveals head of new Qatar-backed farm division

Specialist managing general agent (MGA) Imperium Insurance Management has revealed that Alun Roberts will lead its new specialist farm division, iFarm Underwriting.

The division, which is backed by Qatar Insurance Company Europe, will write farm business in the UK and Ireland.

iFarm officially launched at the recent Federation of Agricultural Brokers (FAB) conference in Kendal, Cumbria. FAB was established as a think tank for brokers to share knowledge, ideas and best practice in the agricultural market and meet quarterly.

Tony Lawrence, managing director of Imperium, said: “iFarm has been created to exploit the opportunity for innovation within the farming insurance market. The market is not as well serviced as the SME market in terms of trading platforms, capacity and schemes.

“All of Alun’s career has given him insurer and broker experience of transacting farm business in his previous role as a director of a retail broker.”

Roberts added: “For some time there has been a lack of capacity in the farming space so we are looking forward to providing the market with an alternative to established markets. Farm insurance can and should be easy to buy and transact so we are making it easy for experts in this field with our suite of products.”
