Insurers central to stability in Europe, says ESRB

Insurers, as major investors in banks, are particularly exposed to any banking collapse emanating from the Eurozone, according to the annual report from the European Systemic Risk Board.

The report notes that as major investors insurers exposed to reinvestment risk, in conditions where yields are generally low and volatility high. 

However the report also notes that, conversely, the extent and speed in which insurers change their investment patterns will also influence whether or not financial market conditions will stabilise.
