Investment gains save blushes at Third Point Re as combined ratio soars

Vastly improved investment returns allowed Third Point Reinsurance to post improved profits in the second quarter of 2016 but this masked troubling losses on the underwriting side of the business, the company posting a combined ratio of 119.2 percent in the quarter.
