JBA secures data sharing agreement with World Bank

Flood science specialist JBA is to supply the World Bank with enhanced access to its Global Flood Maps following its appointment to the Development Data Partnership.

Under the agreement, the World Bank will be able to access JBA’s 30m resolution flood hazard maps for every country in the world, including flood extents and depths across multiple return periods for both river and surface water flooding as well as coastal flooding in some countries.

The Development Data Partnership is a collaboration between international organisations and technology companies which facilitates the efficient and responsible use of third-party data in international development.

The new collaboration builds on JBA’s extensive International Development work with the World Bank and other development banks, NGOs and governments.

Claudia Calderon, Development Data Partnership, partnerships lead, said: “JBA global flood maps are a welcome addition to the Development Data Partnership. This flood risk data will bring valuable insight to our collaborators working on development projects around the world.”

Mark Lawless, JBA director, added: “We are delighted to be appointed to the Partnership and are proud of the role that our Flood Maps can play in supporting the World Bank in its mission to reduce poverty and build shared prosperity in developing countries.”
