Charles Mathias, the chief risk officer (CRO) of Lancashire, will depart from the re/insurer in November 2015.
Mathias is succeeded by Louise Wells, who currently serves as the group’s head of internal audit. She takes up her position on July 28, 2015.
Wells joined Lancashire in 2011 and has been responsible for the planning and implementation of a group-wide internal audit programme.
Alex Maloney, group chief executive officer, said: "I would like to congratulate Louise upon her appointment as group CRO. Louise has proved herself to be meticulous, diligent and independent in her role as group head of internal audit and the management team and board consider that these qualities suit her well for her new role.
“Louise has been closely engaged with Lancashire's preparations for the implementation of the UK Solvency II regime and is well equipped to lead this important work stream. Her appointment demonstrates the importance which Lancashire attaches to developing the skills of our staff and maintaining a strong bench of talented employees capable of serving the needs of our business.
“I would also like to thank Charles for his contribution to Lancashire over many years.”
