Liberty Specialty Markets creates renewable energy unit

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, is establishing a new specialist renewable energy team, integrating underwriting, risk engineering and claims, to expand its onshore energy offering.

Tom Clifton, senior underwriter – power and renewables, will head the team from LSM’s London office. He will be supported by Jose Luis Ruiz-Poveda, energy manager, based in Madrid. The business will be underwritten from Liberty’s London office and regional hubs in Paris, Madrid and Dubai.

Mike Gosselin, LSM’s chief underwriting officer – specialty, said: "The renewable energy sector is increasingly a mainstream source of energy, and is growing rapidly. As the energy landscape changes, so too have the demands of our clients. By leveraging our existing industry knowledge and technical expertise in onshore renewable energy, we can offer an integrated service that includes risk engineering capabilities.

"This service will allow us to work closely with our clients and provide them with a holistic and unique perspective on their exposures, offering guidance and advice on loss prevention and control issues."
