Liberty Specialty Markets promotes Sankey to global head of oil and gas

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) has promoted Paul Sankey to the role of global head of oil and gas, in addition to his job as head of the energy and construction teams in London.

LSM, part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, provides specialty products and services to the oil and gas industry including cover for ‘all risks’ property damage and consequential business interruption.

Sankey has worked at Liberty for 14 years, first as a senior underwriter before managing the oil and gas team. In 2018 he became head of energy and construction and is a chartered chemical engineer, who spent 11 years working in the oil and gas industry. In 2017, he was elected chairman of the Lloyd’s Market Association’s Onshore Energy Business Panel.

Mike Gosselin, LSM’s chief underwriting officer for specialty, said: “Paul has been instrumental in growing the oil and gas portfolio into a market leading franchise. With his extensive knowledge of the energy sector, he is ideally placed to take on this broader position. I’m confident that he will add tremendous value to both our broker partners and policyholders in the global energy marketplace.”
