Markel swoops for Aon director to head renewable energy in Asia

Specialist insurer Markel International has appointed Thomas Baker as senior underwriter and head of renewable energy.

Baker has over 15 years of experience in the renewable energy sector. He joined Markel from Aon Singapore where he was director of construction, power & infrastructure. Prior to that, he held several positions at GCube, a renewable energy MGA, where he wrote onshore and offshore renewable energy globally.

Based in Singapore, Baker will be Markel’s first-ever Asia-based global head as well as its first renewable energy underwriter in the region.

In his new role, Baker will lead an international team to develop Markel’s renewable energy portfolio. He will report to Rohan Davies, divisional managing director of energy.

Davies commented: “Tom’s solid track record and wealth of international experience in renewable energy are invaluable as we continue our ambitious plans for growth in this
important sector. Markel has a strong reputation of delivering leading risk-transfer products and service in the energy space. With Tom strategically based in the rapidly growing Asian market, his appointment as Markel’s new global head is a reflection of our commitment to renewable energy in our global portfolio.”
