Miller expands sports offering with senior strategic hire

Specialist re/insurance broker  Miller has bolstered its sports and entertainment offering with a senior hire from CKRe following a number of strategic appointments over the past 18 months.

Richard Walmsley (pictured) is the latest to join its sports and entertainment team after the hire of Steve Moore last month, to focus on professional football across the UK and Ireland.

Walmsley’s core focus will be on strategic business opportunities for the sports team including federations, major events, sponsors, and sports agencies.

Walmsley has significant experience in insurance and wealth management, with a focus on sports sponsorship and events. Prior to joining Miller, he was head of Global Sporting Risks (a subsidiary of CKRe) and is the founder of specialist sports consultancy Tie-Break Sport.

As well as corporate roles at Prudential and Aegon, Walmsley has held senior appointments in tennis, including chair of GB Davis Cup, chair of the Eastbourne International ATP/WTA Tour events, and the Main Board of the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association). In recognition of achievements in British tennis, he was awarded the LTA Meritorious Service Award 2020.

Tim Nagle, head of Miller Sports & Entertainment, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Richard to our market leading Sports team. His deep expertise and wide network of contacts across brands, sports and governing bodies will be a great asset to us as we continue to strengthen our offering. The team has made a number of strategic appointments over the past 18 months, and I’m excited to see us go from strength to strength in the year ahead.”
