New MGA Hive Aero poaches class underwriter from Talbot

Hive Aero,  a new managing general agency (MGA) specialising in aviation hull war insurance, has appointed Will Gaunt as class underwriter.

Based in London, Gaunt will be responsible for the aviation hull war account, alongside chief underwriting officer Bruce Carman.

With 12 years of experience in the aviation market, Gaunt joins Hive Aero from Talbot Underwriting where he was class underwriter for the general aviation book. Prior to joining Talbot in 2009, he worked at XL Group.

Carman commented: “I am delighted to welcome Will to Hive Aero and very much look forward to working closely with him. His knowledge and relationships within the aviation sector will be a huge asset to us.”

Gaunt said: “I am excited to join Hive Aero and look forward to helping grow the business. The opportunity to assist in developing the highly analytical capacity offered by Hive Aero in this niche market is very appealing.”

Hive Aero began underwriting in April 2018 with an initial stamp capacity of $50 million, for the account of major Lloyd’s insurers Beazley, Arch, Chaucer and Dale.
