Patria Re appoints chair as interim CEO

Manuel Escobedo, the chairman of Mexican reinsurer Patria Re, is also fulfilling the role of interim chief executive, the company has confirmed, while it seeks a permanent replacement for Ingrid Carlou who  stepped down in December last year.

Carlou had been at the helm of the Mexico-based reinsurer since 2005 and CEO since 2012. Prior to that, she was a client manager with Converium, a customer solutions manager with AXA Asia and also worked at AXA Corporate Solutions.

During her time at the helm she expanded the scope of the reinsurer beyond Latin America to give it a much more international profile. This included the formation of a special purpose syndicate (SPS) at Lloyd’s, which was done in conjunction with Ironshore’s Pembroke Managing Agency.

With the formation of Patria Re SPS 6125, the reinsurer became the first Mexican insurer to drive Latin American specialty business lines to the Lloyd’s market.
