Pioneer launches US allied healthcare division
Pioneer Underwriters has launched a US allied healthcare professional general liability division.
The company said it saw allied healthcare as a growing industry, driven by an ageing population, technological advances and healthcare reform.
Jim Stewart has been appointed as senior vice president (SVP) of the division. He joins Pioneer’s US underwriting platform, Pioneer Special Risk (PSR) in the Chicago branch and will report to Gary Dubois, president of PSR.
Stewart joins from ProAccess, having joined in 2007 as SVP of healthcare. During this time he started the company’s healthcare practice, obtaining market contracts including P&C and surplus lines licences in all 50 states and individually booking $40 million in premium.

Jim’s wealth of expertise in this sector, combined with his successful track record of building significant books of Allied Healthcare business, will contribute towards Pioneer’s ongoing development as a leading international underwriter.”
Dubois added: “Jim will be a great addition to our team in the US. He brings with him the established underwriting history and recognised expertise that has formed the foundation for PSR’s growing reputation”.
Stewart said: “I am delighted to be joining Pioneer, which offers a well developed brand and platform from which to build a substantial, leading book of allied healthcare business.”
