R&Q bolsters Lloyd's syndicate DTW1991 underwriting team

Lloyd's underwriting syndicate DTW1991, which was established by Randall & Quilter Managing Agency (R&Q) in January 2013, has appointed John Cowell as senior underwriter, and Ed Colville as underwriter in its UK and international underwriting team.

Cowell has held senior underwriting roles in the UK before transferring to Pen Underwriting (Australia) in 2014, where he was responsible for product development and the management of their underwriting facilities.

Colville joins Syndicate DTW1991 from Trilogy Managing General Agents, a coverholder partner of DTW1991, where he was underwriting a UK SME portfolio. He has also worked for Brit and QBE in underwriting roles.

John Spenceley, head of UK and international, said: "John and Ed are well known within our coverholder community and with their extensive market and product knowledge are well placed to support our coverholder partners in developing their portfolios with us. It’s a pleasure to welcome them both to the syndicate."

Cowell commented: "DTW1991’s commitment to its coverholders is refreshing. I am impressed by the way DTW1991 executes its delegated authority business model and excited by the syndicate’s ambition for itself and its coverholder partners. This is a compelling opportunity."
